Project Washington: LinkedIn D.C.
With a city full of transient workers in a highly buttoned-up and formal setting, LinkedIn wanted to honor the traditional aspects of Washington D.C. while incorporating local playfulness and flare. This bipartisan aesthetic created the opportunity to look towards the different neighborhoods throughout the city and explore what made each one special. Whether it is the classic and iconic atmosphere of Capitol Hill, diversity and artistry of Adams Morgan, or urban hipness of Shaw, all were considered in the design conceptualization process.
What made this project unique to other LinkedIn workplaces, is the integration of their Dynamic Work Environment playbook. The Dynamic Work Environment playbook (DWE) is the starting point for worksites wishing to pursue an alternative way of working or provide an increase in space utilization. After many studies, it was determined that half of the space would encompass a neighborhood for mobile workers and the other half a neighborhood for desk-bound workers who are typically in the office five days a week and at their desk >40% of the time. In the end, we ensured that the overall design provided the key benefits of elevated employee services, better use of space, and followed a consistent workplace delivery experience.
